Nadjet, what was your background before joining OWI?

I completed my high school education in Algeria at the age of 16 and pursued a training program to become a computer engineer.

At the age of 21, I decided to settle in France to further my studies. I obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University Paris-Sud in Orsay. Following that, I embarked on a doctoral research project in partnership with Supélec.

During my time there, I also taught computer science and modeling for three years. In 2011, I joined OWI as an R&D engineer.

I developed skills that allowed me to go from back-end to full stack. Today I am the Research and Development product manager and I manage engineers from the R&D division. 

Can you explain your job using as few technical terms as possible?

“As a Product Manager in the Research and Development department, my role is to oversee the design and implementation of our solutions. I manage a team of engineers and actively participate in the development process. I enjoy being hands-on and involved in the coding aspect because it is essential for understanding and mastering our products.”

What do you like about working at OWI? What motivates you on a daily basis?

Before being a company, OWI is a vision, the vision of its two founders, regarding the customer relationship and the benefits that artificial intelligence can bring to it. What drives me is the belief in our technology. It is different.

Our technology is diverse and leads us to work with various tools and programming languages. Currently, we are utilizing Angular, microservices, Elastic Search, and more. I also enjoy being there to make this technology accessible and beneficial for our clients.

Furthermore, I am particularly attached to the human aspect and the atmosphere that prevails at OWI. We are a family. A family with its ups and downs, challenges, but everything is genuine here. There is no hypocrisy.

I have discovered self-transcendence: OWI has allowed me to discover abilities within myself that I didn’t know existed and to build new ones!

The trust given to us by the founders enables us to pursue our passions and develop skills that we didn’t have when we first arrived.

You have been with OWI for 7 years, what are your plans for the future?

” 7 years is nothing! I always take so much pleasure in moving forward. I had the chance to participate in the development of OWI and its growth; it is an exciting adventure. I knew OWI without customers, then I experienced our first victories, I went through our difficulties as challenges. Today we are ending the industrialization phase, and I am very excited about our next challenge: the international one! !

JESSICA & MARIE-VICTOIRE

Jessica and Marie-Victoire, Project Directors at OWI, are in need of top-notch skills to support our clients and make our solutions valuable in large-scale companies. They are recruiting and mentoring digital project managers, assisting them in becoming key players in the digital transformation of major enterprises.

How do you support their skill development ?

Training on our approach is also a key element. At OWI, we primarily work with business teams. We are here to understand their processes and the specificities of their context, and to help them undergo transformation. The project manager's goal is to be the driving force behind this change by making our solutions valuable to the business teams.

The first few weeks as a project manager are crucial. We have our own proprietary technology, which greatly motivates new profiles. We ensure that the initial training phase, which is highly specific, is both comprehensive and accessible, so that the project manager can become operational quickly.

Marie-Victoire

More than the specific roles and initial training of project managers, it is their personal qualities, often referred to as “soft skills,” and individual backgrounds that are valuable for success at OWI.

At OWI, skill development also involves continuous training. Project managers work on various projects to familiarize themselves with our different products. We also emphasize teamwork and utilize collaborative tools to facilitate communication and ongoing learning.

It seems that we have acquired a particular expertise in developing our teams' skills. Take, for example, a junior project manager who, after a few months at OWI, became the go-to person for Dashboards within the entire project team!

Rémi, what was your background before OWI?

I have a literary background: I started my studies with the Hypokhâgne and Khâgne preparatory classes.

I chose to pursue a career in sales functions because I enjoy interacting, debating, and persuading.

I worked as a sales representative in the fashion industry, particularly in New York, where I worked for a supplier of buttons and buckles for major fashion houses.

I worked as a headhunter in Zurich and then returned to France, where I dedicated a lot of time to my political involvement.

A trusted individual passed along the OWI job advertisement to me. I was seeking a company with an intelligent positioning, where I could have an influence, so I was immediately drawn to the concept and the human scale of OWI.

What do you like about OWI?

“

First and foremost, the technological and methodological positioning we have at OWI is what I like. We acknowledge that there is true complexity in human intelligence, and we do not seek to replace everything with algorithms.

We work closely with the field, striving to understand the specificities of each profession, especially that of advisors. Our solutions help them become more efficient and potentially more fulfilled by automating repetitive tasks, allowing them to dedicate more time to real issues.

We operate in a cutting-edge industry. We undertake rare and innovative projects in a truly unique manner. We are here to pave the way, and that’s what I love. I also appreciate the intersection of philosophy and mathematics in our work. Working with language necessitates a return to literature and philosophy. It involves understanding the meaning of language, the act of expression, and the interplay of words.

It’s fascinating!

What impressed you the most about OWI?

Without hesitation, it’s its evolution that has impressed me the most about OWI. In four years, I have witnessed OWI grow in an astonishing manner.
Our way of presenting ourselves and positioning ourselves with clients has reached a level of maturity that I am proud of.
Our project deployment methodology has been proven successful. We have achieved significant victories against industry giants and numerous innovative companies.

What is the final word?

The technology we develop can be used to enrich human relationships. It enables us to identify the subjects that deserve human attention and dedicate ourselves to them. It is within this dynamic, as a software publisher, user company, or client, that we must choose the quality of the relationship.

Industrialization also says… “devops”

This big word, contraction of the abbreviations DEV (for developers) and OPS (for operational), has been used for a few years in the computer world.
A DEVOPS approach is based on close collaboration between development teams and operations in order to create, test and deploy a solution in a rapid and controlled manner. This is an approach that requires an agile approach.

Together, they have three objectives :

• Better manage releases and the stability of our solution
• Improve the quality of service for users
To achieve this, they have implemented so-called “devops” tools that help share and improve their work: GitLab, SonarQube, Jenkins, Nagios… and the list continues to grow!
The continuous development of OWI processes allows us to bring agility to our users.

TEAM DEVOPS

At OWI, we cannot talk to you about Devops without introducing you to the team that embodies the subject: This is Tigran, operations manager (he is the “OPS” at OWI); and Jade and Josselin, R&D engineers (who are part of the “DEV” team). 

He has been with OWI for 2 years. Arrived as a digital project manager, he was assigned to a complex project that required an agile working methodology at every stage of the production chain:

"This project pushed me to go beyond my capabilities to find solutions," he recalls.

"Since then, he has become the Operations Manager and is responsible for the deployment and monitoring of our solutions."

What I love about the DevOps approach is the emphasis on sharing and communication.

She joined the team a year ago as an R&D engineer. She is working on the new version of the OWI installer, which will allow our solutions to be installed with just a few clicks.

"It's a real challenge, and I need the entire team to achieve it. Our discussions during the R&D standup meetings are essential."

He's the new kid on the block. Freshly graduated from Epitech, he has worked extensively on the DevOps approach for his final-year thesis. At OWI, he is responsible for implementing automated testing.

"I enjoy working on process automation and contributing to productivity improvement. I feel useful. With a DevOps approach, the results are almost immediate, which is motivating for the entire team."

Our DevOps approach takes shape with each new release. This is the case with V5, which will include a very "DevOps" feature as all tests will be automated and industrialized.

AN IMPRESSIVE DUO

GISELLE & LANDRY

Giselle and Landry are both project managers and often work together on common projects. They share their career paths and responsibilities at OWI.

After my high school diploma, I joined the Polytechnic School of the University of Kinshasa. Then in 2009, I decided to come to France and moved to Brittany, where I pursued a Master's degree in "Electronics and Telecommunications" at the University of Western Brittany. I then continued with a Master's degree at the IAE to acquire dual expertise and become a project manager. I then undertook some change management missions at EDF before joining OWI. I had a desire to work in artificial intelligence; it's a subject that fascinates me! I have been with OWI for 2 years now.

Landry arrived in 2016. He tells us about his journey before that date:

After my preparatory classes, I joined ISIT, the School of Translation and Communication, specializing in French, English, and Spanish. I completed my internship and initial assignments at a company that focused on automatic text generation. It was there that I discovered the application of AI to semantics, and I fell in love with the combination of the two subjects. That's why, two years later, I decided to apply to OWI. I was excited about the opportunity to start configuring a new technology. I began my first OWI project with Landry, and it has already been a year!

One year after Landry's arrival, Giselle also joins the OWI team. She is well-versed in the subject of artificial intelligence applied to semantics.

Can you explain what the job of a project manager at OWI entails?

Landry

The main role of a project manager is to guide the client through the process of digital transformation of their customer relationship. Within the team, we are responsible for gathering and analyzing client requirements, drafting functional specifications, configuring the solution in collaboration with various departments, and designing user documentation. We also provide strong advisory support to our clients.

Giselle

Our daily job revolves around semantic project management. Our clients provide us with messages (emails, phone conversations, or other interactions), and our goal is to utilize the content of these messages to make their lives easier.

What do you like about working at OWI? What motivates you on a daily basis?

The challenge! Technology, by definition, is meant to evolve, and constant testing is necessary to move forward. When you've spent hours testing, configuring, and fixing bugs, and finally see your initial vision come to life, it's incredible! It gives you a sense of personal achievement. Beyond that, what I love about OWI is the team, our close-knit nature, and our cultural diversity. Working with colleagues from different backgrounds forces us to adapt and approach things with great open-mindedness, both professionally and personally.

Giselle

OWI is first and foremost a family. I've had wonderful encounters there, and I've grown tremendously in the past 2 years. As Gisèle says, it pushes us to change both professionally and personally in a very positive way. And as someone with an adventurous spirit, let me tell you that I am not disappointed with the journey: here, you have to be willing to push yourself, embrace challenges, and you quickly realize that you develop skills you didn't have before. For instance, I had no knowledge of MySQL language, and I learned everything here!

Landry

That's true! Personally, I had no prior knowledge of the banking/insurance sector. However, that didn't prevent me from working with our key clients who have also taught me a lot along the way.
